5K Pace Calculator
Calculate 5K pace, speed, and kilometer splits from a finish time or a target pace.
A 5K is 5.000 kilometers, or 3.107 miles. This page is for that distance only: finish time, pace, speed, and a split for every kilometer.

How to use this calculator
- Enter a finish time. The example is 25:00. Hours can stay at 0 unless the run is longer than 59 minutes.
- Or switch to pace mode, type minutes and seconds, and choose per kilometer or per mile to see the 5K clock time.
- The split table is one row per kilometer. On an even 25:00 effort every row is 5:00, and the cumulative column is 5:00, 10:00, 15:00, 20:00, 25:00.
How the calculation works
A 5K pace in minutes per kilometer is the finish time in minutes divided by 5. Twenty-five minutes ÷ 5 = 5:00/km exactly. Multiply 5.00 by the mile length of a kilometer, 1.609344, to convert that pace: 5 × 1.609344 = 8.05 minutes, or 8:03 per mile.
Speed follows from the kilometer pace. 60 ÷ 5 minutes = 12.00 km/h. Miles per hour is 60 ÷ 8.047 minutes ≈ 7.46 mph.
The same math works backward. A 10:00 per mile goal is 10 ÷ 1.609344 = 6:13/km, and 6.2137 minutes per mile × 3.1069 miles ≈ 31:04 for the 5K.
What 5K times look like in pace
Twenty minutes is 4:00/km (6:26/mile), a speed of 15 km/h. Thirty minutes is 6:00/km (9:39/mile) at 10 km/h. Forty minutes is 8:00/km (12:52/mile) at 7.5 km/h. A 12:00 per mile jog covers a 5K in about 37:17.
Parkrun and most road 5Ks are the same 5.000 km distance. A track 5,000 m is also 5 km, but the tangents and the surface are different, so a road result and a track result at the same pace are not identical efforts.

Frequently Asked Questions
What pace is a 25 minute 5K?
5:00 per kilometer, or 8:03 per mile. That is 12.0 km/h (about 7.5 mph).
What pace is a 30 minute 5K?
6:00 per kilometer, or 9:39 per mile. Each kilometer split is 6:00 on an even run.
Is a 5K the same as 3 miles?
No. Five kilometers is 3.107 miles. Three miles is 4.828 km, about 34 seconds faster than a 5K at 6:00/km pace.
